In just four years, more than 60% of the world’s population will use digital wallets!
Juniper Research has investigated what to expect from cashless payments in the future. Scientists predict that the presence of super apps will drive the use of digital wallets in countries that are currently considered to be overburdened with cash.
What awaits the world:
– The total number of digital wallet users worldwide will exceed 5.2 billion in 2026, up from 3.4 billion in 2022, an increase of over 53%.
– The rapid growth of users is recorded in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, in particular, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. By 2026, digital wallets are predicted to be used by around 75% of the population in each of these countries.
– Payments using QR codes will be the most popular type of transaction in the digital wallet space by 2026, reaching 380 billion transactions worldwide and accounting for more than 40% of all transactions by volume.
The study recommends that QR payment providers integrate loyalty features and personalized marketing opportunities, as the use of QR codes in the Chinese and Indian markets has reached its peak and providers must innovate to remain competitive.
